That this House deplores the excessive use of force employed by French commandos on the Greenpeace ship the 'Rainbow Warrior' at Mururoa Atoll; notes that tear gas, which is intended to be used to disperse a hostile crowd, was used against peaceful protestors confined to the ship; notes that Monsignor Galliot, a French Roman Catholic Bishop, and Oscar Temaru, leader of Tahiti's pro-independence party, were also present on the ship; and calls on the British Government to condemn France's actions against the Greenpeace ship and to call on the French Government to abandon plans for further nuclear testing in the Pacific.
