VISIT OF FRENCH PRESIDENT
EDM #1465
Tabled 17 October 1995
1994-95 Session
There has been an amendment to this EDM.
That this House notes the visit of the President of France to England on 29th-30th October; urges the Prime Minister to make clear to M. Chirac that it is the view of the overwhelming majority of the British people and the member states of the Commonwealth that the French nuclear tests in the Pacific should cease forthwith; and, in the light of the anti-European and anti-foreigner tenor of the remarks of the Secretary of State for Defence in Blackpool, believes that the proposed visit by M. Chirac to the joint Anglo-French Air Defence Command at High Wycombe should be postponed until such time as political control of Britain's defences are in the hands of a Minister or a party which believes in co-operating with Britain's friends and allies in Europe instead of treating them to chauvinist abuse.
