Motion text

That this House is appalled that the Covert and Operational Procurement Exhibition (COPEX) highlighted in Channel Four's Dispatches programme, The Torture Trail, is being held at Sandown Race course in Esher, Surrey, from 31st October to 2nd November; notes that the exhibitors at COPEX includes companies supplying riot control and counter insurgency equipment and electro-shock weapons and that specialist law enforcement and intelligence agencies are among the groups invited to attend COPEX and that countries represented at the 1994 COPEX included China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Israel, Singapore, Columbia, Mexico and Algeria; and calls on Her Majesty's Government not to send representatives or provide any assistance to the organisers of COPEX nor to allow entry into the United Kingdom, for the purpose of attending COPEX, of representatives of governments with bad human rights records.
