Motion text

That this House notes that the European Development Fund channels development aid to 70 countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, of which 40 are amongst the poorest in the world and the majority are in sub-Saharan Africa; further notes that the European Development Fund provides a stable source of funding for long term development which is based on the principles of partnership and integration of aid and trade, being the only existing aid instrument which allows EU member states to implement a common development policy towards a large group of low income countries; views any declining commitment by member states to a coordinated policy which the African, the Caribbean and the Pacific group as misguided and short-sighted; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to maintain in real terms its contributions to the 8th European Development Fund.
