That this House deplores the fact that, while a recent survey showed that some 77 per cent. of Scots would like to own their own homes, in fact only 55 per cent. do so, reflecting the economic hardships that Her Majesty's Government has imposed on the Scottish people; calls therefore, on Her Majesty's Government to introduce measures to improve the employment and financial prospects of the people of Scotland in a manner which will enable them to realise their aspirations to be home owners; and believes the realisation of such ambitions to be particularly pertinent in view of the decline in public sector housing available for rent.
