Motion text

That this House notes that the British television newsmen, Malcolm Rennie and Brian Peters, were killed, with three other Australian-based newsmen, at Balibo, East Timor, on 16th October 1975, to prevent them informing the world that Indonesia had begun its invasion of East Timor; notes that Australian Foreign Minister Evans confirmed this when he stated, in the Australian Senate on 7th June 1994, that the five newsmen were executed in a major military invasion; and therefore urges Her Majesty's Government to institute an inquiry into the Balibo killings of 16th October 1975.
