FUTURE OF THE BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE
EDM #624
Tabled 15 February 1995
1994-95 Session
That this House greatly values the efficiency and effectiveness of the National Blood Transfusion Service and notes with concern the National Blood Authority proposals to close five regional transfusion centres in Brentwood, Lancaster, Liverpool, Oxford and Plymouth; consider that these proposals will impact on the efficiency of blood collection services, the way blood is tested, processed and supplied in England, and result in the vital loss of staff and blood donors; commends the half million donors and members of the public who have registered their support for the staff side's Blood Service Campaign rejecting the NBA's plans; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take urgent steps to safeguard the future proficiency of the blood transfusion service in the United Kingdom. (Relevant registered interest declared).
