Suggested amendment

leave out from 'of' to end and add 'the 88 schools in Kent who have voted for their schools to become grant maintained; notes the growing success of these schools as a result of their controlling their total funds and decisions; views with concern the flood of expensive propaganda being issued by the county council at the expense of fully funding the schools budgets; and notes its failure as evidenced by the decision of further school governing bodies to recommend ballots on grant maintained status to their parents.'.

Original motion text

That this House congratulates the parents and governors of all 554 schools in Kent who, having considered a grant maintained ballot for the school year 1994-95, declined to ballot; recognises the immense success of the Kent Partnership initiative, in which over 90 percent. of Kent schools participate; and deplores the negative approach of the proponents of grant maintained status in Kent, whose sustained attacks on educational provision in Kent do a grave disservice to the interests of pupils, teachers, parents and governors.
