Capital Investment in the United Kingdom
EDM #1016
Tabled 17 May 1990
1989-90 Session
That this House condemns the view of the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry that Britain is the cheap labour capital of Northern Europe, blessed with a flexible workforce and free from tiresome labour laws; and further calls upon him to stop promoting the United Kingdom as a sweat shop to Japanese businessmen and instead to take serious steps to halt the haemorrhage of some ú15 billion in capital investment flowing out from Britain each year.
