ACCESS TO THE POLITICAL PROCESS FOR PEOPLE WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
EDM #405
Tabled 18 January 1995
1994-95 Session
That this House believes, as a matter of principle, that people with learning difficulties should have full access to the political process, including fair access to voting; believes that this would include making relevant parliamentary publications fully accessible using pictures, simple text and audio tape and that this requires research work by organisations representating people with learning difficulties to establish the best ways to achieve this accessibility and to create standard systems; believes that this need is starkly demonstrated by the fact that no one has so far been able to acquire a copy of 'A Consultation on Government Measures to Tackle Discrimination Against Disabled People' in the form of an audio cassette for people with learning difficulties; and urges the Government to remedy this situation immediately and then take steps to bring about full accessibility to the political process for people with learning difficulties as a matter of urgency.
