FIRST PRIORITY OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION
EDM #10
Tabled 16 November 1994
1994-95 Session
That this House condemns the pronouncement of Mr Roy Lilley, Chairman of the Homewood NHS Trust, that a doctor's first duty is not to his patients; calls upon the Secretary of State for Health not only to dissociate herself from her political appointee's remarks but to dismiss him; and reminds all NHS trust chairpersons that the taxpayers who fund the NHS expect doctors to respect their Hippocratic oath, which puts the needs of patients ahead of the prejudices of appointed bureaucrats who for the time being are charged with administering the NHS.
