DEATH OF LEXIE MCCONNELL AND PUBLIC INQUIRY
EDM #114
Tabled 23 November 1994
1994-95 Session
That this House notes the tragic and unnecessary death of nine year old Lexie McConnell in 1992 as a result of excessive doses of Prednisolone, a corticosteroid; notes with alarm that Lexie's parents were not informed of the side effects of corticosteroids, including immunosuppression; and therefore calls for a full rigorous and independent public inquiry into Lexie's death in order that the dangers of the use of corticosteroids can be fully investigated and the lessons learned from this tragedy used to prevent further deaths or injury from the use of steroid treatment.
