Motion text

That this House congratulates the Palestinian people on the occasion of the inaugural session of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Gaza City on 7th March and notes the commitment and support given by the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza for the negotiated peace process; congratulates the members of the Council who were successful candidates in the first national Palestinian elections; congratulates President Arafat on his election as President of the Legislative Council; sends all good wishes for the future work of the Legislative Council in the interim period of the Oslo Peace Agreement; and hopes that the Council will be able to call on the professional and technical expertise of this House in order to assist with its development.
