Motion text

That this House calls upon the Government to initiate an urgent inquiry into the validity of statistics compiled under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR), following the British Safety Council's safety award to Co-Steel (Sheerness) on the basis of RIDDOR statistics and the subsequent withdrawal of the safety award and following private meetings with employees and written statements from over 30 employees saying that following accidents at work, systematic pressure was placed on Co-Steel employees by the company to take holiday leave or to come back on light duties pending their recovery, so as to avoid Co-Steel having to register the accident as a lost-time accident under RIDDOR.
