Motion text

That this House is concerned both about the way Professor Eric Caines was appointed as Head of the Centre for Health Services Management Studies at the University of Nottingham and also about the manner of his resignation; notes that Professor Caines was suspended from his post on 4th December and chose to resign on 5th December; understands that security guards changed locks at the Centre and that auditors are currently investigating alleged financial irregularities; remembers Professor Caines' advocacy of market forces in the National Health Service and his appointment to the Sheehy Committee by the then Home Secretary, the Right honourable Member for Rushcliffe; regrets that the University of Nottingham has failed to make a statement on this matter; and calls upon the University's Vice-Chancellor, who was also a member of the Sheehy Committee, now to do so.
