Motion text

That this House celebrates 6th November 1996 as the 50th Anniversary of the passing into law of the National Health Service Act 1946, not only as the foundation stone of the National Health Service, not only as personal memorial to the vision, socialist principles, far-sightedness and statesmanship of Aneurin Bevan, but also as the finest working example of the principle of public provision of an essential service vital to a civilised society; and calls on the present Government, in spite of its predecessors having voted against the Act's Second and Third Readings, to avoid any further damage to the National Health Service pending the General Election.

The first 6 Members who have signed to support the motion are the sponsors. The primary sponsor is generally the person who tabled the motion and has responsibility for it. The date shown is when the Member signed the motion.
