Motion text

That this House calls upon the Government to recognise the unfairness shown to volunteers within police authorities, such as special constables and lay visitors, who cannot be offered personal accident insurance by their authority, since under the Police and Magistrates Courts Act 1994 police authorities are no longer legally empowered to insure volunteers against personal accident risks; and calls upon the Government to introduce early legislation to reinstate former powers to police authorities to allow them to adequately insure all such volunteers.
