Motion text

That this House welcomes the National Motorcycle Council parliamentary lobby on Tuesday 31st March; notes the support for motorcycling expressed in the 1997 General Election manifestos of the main political parties in the United Kingdom; and looks forward to the positive role of the powered two wheeler being fully reflected in the forthcoming integrated transport White Paper.

MOTORCYCLING (Amendment 1)
after 'March', insert 'is concerned at the high relative involvement of motor cyclists in crashes, the very high incidence of serious leg injuries resulting from collisions with other vehicles, and the significant numbers of pedestrians and cyclists hurt in collisions with motorcyclists, the risks for younger and newly qualified riders, whilst welcoming improvements in casualty reduction during the past 15 years;'.

leave out from 'vehicles' to end and add 'and notes that, in most cases, these accidents are caused by 4-wheel drivers who have neither the road skills nor the concern to ensure the safety of 2-wheel riders and pedestrians; and calls on the Government to improve the training of car and truck drivers.'.
