Motion text

That this House notes that Mordechai Vanunu is now entering his 12th year in solitary confinement in an Israeli jail for revealing to the world details of Israel's secret nuclear weapons programme; recognises that his actions were motivated simply by a desire for peace and to encourage debate inside Israel on nuclear weapons; notes also the evidence published in the Sunday Times of 6 April last year exposing the identity of the Mossad agent who lured Mordechai Vanunu to Rome from London, confirming his claim that he was abducted and taken to Israel against his will; and calls on the Government to use its best endeavours, bilaterally and, from 1 January 1998, as president of the European Union to persuade the Government of Israel to mark their Golden Jubilee year by releasing Mordechai Vanunu from solitary confinement and remitting the balance of his sentence.
