EDM (Early Day Motion) 898: tabled on 27 June 2000

Tabled in the 1999-00 session.

Motion text

That this House welcomes the recommendation of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence that the anti-cancer drugs docetaxol (Taxotere) or paclitaxel (Taxol) for breast cancer, irrespective of the health authority in which they reside; notes the geographical inequality with the current availability of these drugs; recognises the financial constraints faced by local health authorities; and calls on the Government to ensure sufficient extra funds for health authorities to make these treatments available so that access to these drugs is based on patient suitability rather than financial constraints.
