Motion text

That this House registers its abhorrence and detestation at the so-called scientific whaling activities of the Japanese whaling fleet now in Antarctica; notes with revulsion that some 300 minke whales are due to be slaughtered by the Japanese despite requests from the International Whaling Commission not to do so; believes that the killing of whales by the Japanese for scientific reasons is entirely spurious, since whalemeat from previous research catches is on sale in Tokyo department stores at ú70 per pound; demands that the Japanese government impose an immediate ban on the killing of minke whales; and believes that a failure to do so should constitute a crime against the planet meriting to imposition of appropriate sanctions against Japan by non-whaling governments.
