Motion text

That this House offers its congratulations to the people of Switzerland on the massive and clear decision in a referendum to reject membership of the EU; and notes the nation's long-standing commitment to democracy rather than to being a small part of a single European state without democracy.

SWISS EU REFERENDUM (Amendment 1)
leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes that the Swiss Government's policy of gradual approach to EU membership has been endorsed in the recent referendum; and looks forward to welcoming Switzerland to the European Union when this process is completed.'.

at end insert 'and cannot comprehend the argument that the vote was in favour of joining at a future date, observing that the question on the voting paper was solely about whether negotiations should commence.'.
