That this House congratulates the Government on creating the economic circumstances in which the manufacturing sector has witnessed increased output of 0.8 per cent. in April, coupled with a narrowing of the trade deficit in goods and services; recognises the various difficulties that the manufacturing sector has been facing, particularly the strength of the pound; welcomes the Government's recently published manufacturing strategy that follows on from the manufacturing summit in December 2001; and calls on the Government to continue working in partnership with the employers and trade unions in the manufacturing sector to implement strategies to build on the increase in output to continue providing much needed support and assistance to the manufacturing sector.
