Motion text

That this House notes the drastic fall in milk prices for dairy farmers with prices falling by two and a half pence per litre in the last two months; recognises that dairy farmers in Lancashire cannot sustain their businesses with milk prices as low as 17 pence per litre; further notes that prices may fall again; and calls on the Government to apply for agrimoney aid to support dairy farmers in Lancashire who are still recovering from the impact of foot and mouth as well as declining milk prices.

at end add 'further notes that DEFRA expects the net farm income for dairy farms in England to increase from ú14,000 in 2000-01 by 120 per cent. to ú32,000 in 2001-02 and that the previous decline in farm incomes has been matched by a major increase in the values of farm assets with the average price of farm land appreciating by 20 per cent. in the past year following above inflation increase in values of farms and farm buildings over the past decade.'.
