Motion text

That this House condemns the arbitrary arrest and imprisonment of the Independent's Harare correspondent Basildon Peta by Zimbabwean police on Monday 4th February; urges the European Union and the British Government to now impose sanctions on Zimbabwe as a matter of urgency now that it is evident that the international media cannot operate freely; and calls on President Robert Mugabe to end the persecution and imprisonment of members of Zimbabwe's free press.
