Motion text

That this House notes that sport and recreation employ more than 609,000 people and involve more than two million volunteers, accounting for two per cent. of National GDP; further notes the contribution that sport and recreation can make towards shaping a healthier nation, improving educational attainment and tackling social exclusion; further notes that sport and recreation are rapidly growing with real and identifiable skills needs which must be tackled if they are to fulfil their social and economic potential; and therefore supports the calls of the major employers and training bodies in the sector for the Government to licence a dedicated sector skills council for sport and recreation.
