FIRE SAFETY

EDM (Early Day Motion) 241: tabled on 16 October 2001

Tabled in the 2001-02 session.

This motion has been signed by 115 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

As this motion is using historical data, we may not have the record of the original ordering, in which case signatories are listed alphabetically.

Motion text

That this House notes that there have been at least 240 fires in warehouse, distribution and storage premises since 1990; further notes that there is no limit on compartment size or any requirement for sprinklers to be installed when such buildings consist of a single storey; believes that such fires cause massive economic loss, damage the environment and put the safety of the public and firefighters at risk; and therefore calls on Her Majesty's Government to ensure that building regulations limit compartment sizes for single storey buildings, require the installation of sprinklers in buildings where compartment sizes exceed 2,000 square metres and the use of non-combustible cores in all sandwich panels used in such premises.
