Motion text

That this House condemns the proposal of the Liberal Democrat-controlled Liverpool City Council to close six of the city's nine elderly homes; recognises that this would mean the loss of 200 residential places and more than 300 jobs; opposes the transfer of elderly residents to the private sector, which is already facing a massive crisis; believes it to be unacceptable to subject very needy and vulnerable older people to the anxiety resulting from the proposal; and calls upon Liverpool City Council to commence a rolling programme to renovate and repair the homes so that elderly people can live in dignity.
