Motion text

That this House believes that the marine environment around the UK needs to be better protected and that comprehensive and wide-ranging legislation is needed to achieve this better protection; welcomes the Second Reading given to the Marine Wildlife Conservation Bill, which will improve protection of nationally important marine sites and wildlife around the coasts of England and Wales and the enforcement of such protection; believes that the Bill represents an important first step towards wider legislation to protect the marine environment; further welcomes the Government's recognition of the need for the comprehensive action to protect the marine environment; and calls on the Government to ensure that the Bill delivers real protection for nationally important marine sites.
