Motion text

That this House expresses its gratitude to the honourable member for Orpington for the invaluable contribution he has made to environmental audit and sustainable development during his six years as Chairman of the Environmental Audit Committee; recognises his role, as its first chairman, in helping the committee to become not only an influential driver for change in Government but also a strong advocate for sustainable development within Parliament and beyond, notably through the publication of 34 reports; and welcomes the committee's achievements under his leadership, particularly its role in ensuring greater consideration of environmental and sustainability issues in the budget, pre-budget and spending reviews processes, improvements in the clarity and focus of the Government's sustainable development headline indicators and the introduction of the annual Green Ministers' Report.
