Motion text

That this House notes the huge financial challenge of tackling global poverty and achieving the internationally agreed United Nations Millennium Development Goals by 2015; further notes that these goals will not be reached without the introduction of new income streams; applauds the Government's efforts to secure progress on this urgent and vital issue at the G8 summit in Evian; supports the Treasury and the Department for International Development's courageous proposal for an International Financing Facility that would double current aid spending in poorest countries; and further supports their pledge to evaluate new and innovative ways to finance the halving of world poverty in the next 12 years through global taxes, special drawing rights and the Tobin tax.
