Motion text

That this House notes that teachers working in schools in inner and outer London and the fringe areas do invaluable work; further notes that the current cost of living allowances paid to these teachers are too low; acknowledges the difficulties experienced by many head teachers in dealing with staff resignations due to lack of affordable accommodation; notes the burden placed on school budgets by the high cost of supply teachers to fill the resulting vacancies; and calls on the Government to recognise the key status of teachers by paying them allowances comparable with other vital workers such as the police, and relative to the high cost of living in London and the fringe areas.
