OXFAM COFFEE RESCUE PLAN
EDM #142
Tabled 19 November 2002
2002-03 Session
That this House is concerned about the world's millions of coffee growers who as prices have fallen by an estimated 50 per cent. over the past three years, have been forced to sell their crops for less than the cost of production; notes that during this period international coffee companies have continued to make large profits, while their international brands have not fallen in price to the customer; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to support Oxfam's excellent 'Coffee Rescue Plan' aimed at bringing together all sections of the coffee trade to find a way to ensure that present and future coffee markets do not simply benefit the rich to the cost of the industry's poor growers.
