Motion text

That this House calls attention to the increasing levels of sexual ill-health in the United Kingdom resulting in the worst conditions since records have been kept; notes that since sexual health was removed as a National Health Service priority in 1997; gonorrhea rates have doubled, chlamydia infection rates have reached epidemic proportions, HIV diagnosis are at an all-time high and waiting times for appointments for treatment at genito-urinary medicine clinics have in some areas reached six weeks, rather than the recommended two days; further notes that an array of independent bodies, including the All-Party Parliamentary Group on AIDS, the All-Party Parliamentary Pro-Choice and Sexual Health Group, the Health Select Committee, the British Medical Association, the Royal College of Physicians, the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV, the Association of NHS Providers of AIDS Care and Treatment, the British HIV Association, and leading UK HIV and sexual health organisations including the Terrence Higgins Trust, Brook, Family Planning Association, Medical Foundation for AIDS and Sexual Health and the National AIDS Trust have asked the Government to re-prioritise sexual health and HIV; and calls on the Government to ensure that sexual health and HIV form part of the 2005 to 2008 Planning and Priorities Framework as a first step towards improving the sexual health of this country.
