Motion text

That this House congratulates the Motor Neurone Disease Association for organising Motor Neurone Awareness Week which is taking place between 12th and 20th June; recognises that this is the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Association and that the awareness week this year is part of a wider celebration of a quarter of a century of helping to fight this disease; further notes that approximately 5,000 people at any one time suffer from motor neurone disease in the UK; recognises the excellent work undertaken by medical researchers in seeking to tackle this debilitating disease; further recognises that much research still needs be done into the causes of MND; congratulates adult walkers who will be 'walking to d'feet MND', by taking part in one of a number of team walks taking place across the country at various times during the week, which aim to generate awareness of the disease and raise funds for its sufferers; also applauds the thousands of children expected to be taking part in the junior walking events; and welcomes the Association's target of raising ú50,000 from the walks in addition to money raised by its 85 local branches which are staging events locally, also to raise funds and generate awareness.
