Suggested amendment
Line 9, at end add 'and looks forward to the creation of a United Kingdom football team, which might increase the chances of success on the pitch and lessen the bad behaviour of some English fans of it.'
Original motion text
That this House regrets the absence of Scotland and Wales from the European Championship in Portugal; welcomes the fact that the England football team and Scottish referee Mr Stuart Dougal are at the championships; wishes them both the very best of luck for the remainder of the competition for what is proving to be a great sporting event and hopes that the two will avoid each other during the Championship in the name of Anglo-Scottish detente; and further notes that, notwithstanding Europe's oldest alliance between Scotland and France, la vieille alliance, this House commiserates with English football fans and players after their brave defeat in the opening match of the European Championships, the pain of which Scotland fans know only too well.
