Motion text

That this House notes with concern the warning of the UN's International Panel on Climate Change that global temperatures will rise by as much as 5.8C by 2099; is concerned at the catastrophic effect this will have on agriculture, wildlife, human health and prosperity globally, recognises the acute problems this will cause in both the African and Asian continents where the resultant crop failures could mean a loss of up to one quarter of food production in those areas; and calls upon the Prime Minister to bring forward policies to reach the Government's own domestic goal of 60 per cent. carbon dioxide emissions reductions by 2050 and ensure that climate and disaster risk reduction is mainstreamed into the British Government's overseas development programming, and furthermore, to urge all countries, including the United States, to engage fully in international agreements to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and help developing countries become more resilient to increasing climate-related risks, and persuade the G8 to agree plans for a global, long-term, effective and equitable solution to climate change.
