That this House welcomes Epilepsy Week 2004, which takes place between 16th and 22nd May; notes that this is an annual event and that the emphasis for this year's series of events is 'Epilepsy in Primary Care'; congratulates the National Society for Epilepsy in carrying out a poll for this year's Epilepsy Week to ascertain the standard of care general practitioners are providing to people with epilepsy; awaits with interest the results of this poll when they are published; notes with concern that people with epilepsy have a risk of premature death that is two or three times higher than the general population, that every year in the UK about 1,000 people die as a result of epilepsy, and that most of these deaths are associated with seizures; believes from the results of the research commissioned by last year's Epilepsy Week that the need to educate people properly about epilepsy is ongoing; and warmly commends all those involved in organising this series of events.
