That this House recognises the work of the National Kidney Research Fund in profiling the needs of those waiting for a kidney transplant; congratulates UK Transplant on the 10th anniversary of the Organ Donor Register; applauds the efforts of all those working to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation and transplantation; welcomes the fact that over 11.8 million people are currently registered as organ donors; notes that UK Transplant has pledged to increase this figure by a further one million over the next year; further recognises that almost 6,000 people in the UK are currently awaiting a life-saving organ transplant; is concerned that while 90 per cent. of people support organ donation, only 20 per cent. have registered their intention to donate; and urges the Government to do all it can to encourage more people to join the Organ Donor Register to reach its target of 16 million registered donors by 2010.
