Motion text

That this House notes with regret the imminent closure of Worldaware; acknowledges that for nearly 30 years it has provided a crucial and much-valued teacher resource for primary and secondary school studies into issues of global development; notes that Worldaware and its associate websites attract over one million hits a month; notes that Worldaware has won awards for its role in the teaching of world citizenship, part of the national curriculum; fears that its demise results from the unwillingness of either the Department for International Development or Department for Education and Skills to support its annual budget of approximately ú200,000 despite their recognition of its valuable work; and calls on the Government to review its policy on the assistance it gives to this respected voluntary organisation.
