Motion text

That this House congratulates The Prostate Cancer Charity, the largest voluntary organisation focused on prostate health, on commissioning and publishing during Prostate Cancer Awareness Week an ICM poll on the state of public awareness of the basics of the prostate gland; notes with concern that 90 per cent. of UK adults do not understand the crucial role the gland plays in a man's sexual function, less than 50 per cent. know where the gland is located in the body and one in 10 adults believe that both men and women have a prostate gland; recognises the vital importance of raising urgently the level of public awareness of the prostate gland and what can go wrong with it to ensure that men are sensitised to prostate health messages; calls on the Government to launch in partnership with the voluntary sector a prostate, and prostate cancer, awareness campaign; and welcomes The Prostate Cancer Charity's range of high quality website, printed and helpline information resources designed to equip men to make informed choices about prostate health and prostate cancer treatment options.
