Motion text

That this House acknowledges that over one billion people live on less than a dollar a day; believes that helping poor countries escape from poverty is one of the greatest moral challenges of our generation; notes that the UK presidencies of the G8 and EU in 2005 provide a unique opportunity for the UK to continue to lead the rich countries of the world in taking action on global poverty; and urges the Government to use its influence at the G8 meeting in July to secure international commitment to substantially increased and more effective aid flows, to deeper multilateral debt cancellation, and to end the scandal of protectionism by rich countries at the expense of the poor.
