Motion text

That this House notes that since its creation the National Lottery has given over £16 billion to charitable causes across the country; recognises the substantial benefit this money has brought to the UK's cultural, artistic and sporting life; believes that Lottery money should not be spent on things that are the Government's responsibility; expresses concern that the principle of additionality is being breached; is opposed to the Secretary of State increasing the Government's control over the Lottery; is concerned that the Government is seeking powers to manipulate charitable works and good causes for political motives; and urges the Government not to turn the Lottery into another arm of Government but rather to defend its independence and ensure that its good causes money is spent on charitable work, not on Government business.
