Motion text

That this House welcomes the campaign by the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) for more regionally and locally produced foods to be protected under EU rules, which culminates at the CLA Game Fair at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire from 22nd to 24th July; notes that only 29 products from the UK have been listed under Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI); further notes that this compares with 141 PDOs and PGIs in France and 148 in Italy; and calls on the UK Government actively to engage with the food industry in this country to raise awareness of this opportunity to protect regionally distinctive food and to promote regionally distinctive British food in Europe.
