Motion text

That this House congratulates the Afghan people on their recent parliamentary elections, the first since 1969, and congratulates those involved in arriving at this successful conclusion; notes that this is a welcome stepping stone on Afghanistan's transition to stability, democracy and the rule of law; recognises that this recovery is ongoing, inevitably gradual and long-term and requires an equally long-term commitment to Afghanistan from those members of the international community who supported the Bonn Process; and commends the signing of a joint declaration of an enduring partnership between the UK and Afghanistan on 19th July.
