Motion text

That this House applauds Asthma UK, Cancer Research UK and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy on the launch of their physical activity manifesto Active workplaces? Active communities? Active Government?; notes with concern that physical activity levels across the UK are currently very low, with only a third of men and a quarter of women doing the recommended 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity on five days each week; further notes that if people with asthma have control of their asthma it should not stop them from being able to take part in any sport or physical activity; recognises that an active lifestyle is key to improving and maintaining health and well-being, and that physical activity can help reduce the risk of developing many conditions, including cancer, diabetes, stroke, depression and mental illnesses, osteoporosis, and heart disease; believes that local and national government has a role to take in encouraging children, adults and older people to become more physically active; urges the Government to take forward the calls in the manifesto for increasing levels of physical activity across the UK; and calls on the Government to implement the Physical Activity Action Plan set out in the Choosing Activity paper quickly and effectively.
