Motion text

That this House congratulates the great campaign and lobby of Parliament on 12th July and the petition signed by 15,000 nuclear workers, their families and their communities; acknowledges the need for a balanced energy mix including renewables, gas and clean coal highlighted in the recent Energy Review announcement; but further recognises the need for the development of new, replacement power stations that will help secure the United Kingdom's energy supply and help prevent global warming.

NUCLEAR WORKERS LOBBY 12th JULY 2006 (Amendment 1)
at end add `; and notes that in a Written Answer to the hon. Member for Blaenau Gwent on 18th July (Question 86114), the Minister of State for Energy stated that it was not Government policy to replace nuclear power stations closed at the end of their operating lives with new nuclear plants, and that it intended to leave the decision to propose replacement capacity, along with development, construction and operation, to the private sector.'.
