Suggested amendment
leave out from `House' to end and add `notes the three per cent. cut in council tax proposed in Hammersmith and Fulham, paid for in part by a generous additional £3.6 million in government grant and in part by imprudently raiding the council's balances; but deplores the cuts in services being implemented by the council, in particular the closure of Hurlingham and Chelsea School, the sacking of all 166 home helps, the cancellation of the affordable rented homes programme, the 50 per cent. increase in burial charges and the cuts in street cleansing and meals-on-wheels services.'.
Original motion text
That this House congratulates Hammersmith and Fulham Council on its three per cent. cut in council tax for 2007-08 in the first budget of the Council's new administration; notes with disapproval the further increase in the precept by London Mayor Livingstone; and calls on the Mayor to learn the lesson from Hammersmith and Fulham that better services can be provided at the same time as lower taxes.
