Motion text

That this House notes the very considerable disfigurement, distress and costs of injuries including loss of sight from violence and accidents inflicted with glasses and bottles in and around city and town centre licensed premises, including annual costs of more than £4 million in criminal injury compensation awards alone; congratulates Cardiff Community Safety Partnership and other local organisations in their successful efforts to mandate the use of plastic and toughened glass and to prevent glassware being taken into the street; urges all local authorities to impose mandatory use of plastic glasses and bottles in licensed premises open after 11pm; further urges local authorities to introduce financial incentives, such as money-back schemes for glassware, for glass recycling; and further urges the British Standards Institution to develop manufacturing standards for toughened glass.
