Motion text

That this House welcomes the statement by the Future For Our Post Office Campaign, a diverse range of stakeholder groups including the Communication Workers Union, the National Pensioners Convention, the Countryside Alliance and Local Works; joins these and other groups in their concern over the impact that the Government's proposals will have on the provision of post office services to both the public at large and vulnerable people including pensioners in particular, especially those in rural and urban deprived areas; and calls upon the Government to provide additional funding for the entire Post Office network, provide a greater role and remit for local, regional and national government assemblies in respect of Post Office Ltd. to establish greater accountability of post office services provision, enhance the products and services on offer to customers, ensure that the Post Office is the shop front for national and local government services, extend the Social Network Payment to include additional funding for the urban deprived network and Crown post offices, establish a more functional replacement product for the Post Office card account that tackles financial exclusion and is run and operated through Post Office Ltd, improve and strengthen proposed access criteria so that these genuinely meet the needs of local communities, prevent further avoidable closures of rural and urban post offices and ensure that a significant national network of Crown post offices have a central role and a long-term future as part of the Post Office network.
